In the late 1960s, American artist Paul Selinger created Hong Kong's first sculpture playground in Shek Lei. Over the following two decades, new playgrounds inspired by modern architecture, art, and educational theories began to reshape the city's urban landscape.
Since 2017, arts practitioner Fan Lok Yi has dedicated efforts to reviving the history of these abstract playscapes through field studies, research, and collecting memories from designers and the public. "The Abstract Playscapes of Hong Kong (Expanded Edition)" documents the stories of multiple playgrounds from the 1960s to the 1980s, revealing their fascinating evolution in relation to international trends and local societal development.Book Size: W170mm x H235mm
